IT CUT ME DEEP. NOTHING TESTS YOU LIKE FINDING OUT YOUR MOM HAS LUNG CANCER.

Jason Day’s mother, Dening, was always the driving force of the family. Her sacrifice and support helped Jason emerge as one of the top pro golfers in the world. They meant the world to each other. But one day they received devastating news: she was diagnosed with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer. Feeling like his world was collapsing, Jason left the pro golf tour for a year to focus solely on her care. He was determined to do all he could to give her strength and help her find answers.

BIOMARKER TESTING HELPED US UNDERSTAND MY MUM'S TYPE OF CANCER AND HER NEXT STEPS.

Jason became a fierce champion of his mother's care—he would not take no for an answer. After talking to several doctors, Jason and his mom learned how important it is to get a complete diagnosis. And that means getting biomarker testing, also known as molecular or genetic testing. For Dening, that allowed her doctors to better understand her specific type of cancer and choose a therapy that's proven to treat it.

It's important to get a full picture of your cancer

You may not learn about all of cancer’s biomarkers from an initial diagnosis. Make sure your doctor tests your lung cancer for biomarkers, some of which can be the “drivers” that cause the cancer to grow and spread.

I WANT HER AROUND FOR ME AND FOR MY KIDS. THIS IS GREATER THAN GOLF.

These days, Jason and his mom are grateful to be able to spend time together. Jason is back on the pro tour, and his mother cherishes her time with her grandkids. Most important, Jason and his mom continue to support each other every way they can. Biomarker testing helped guide the way toward a treatment that’s right for her. To get there, they asked questions, they put a team together and they persevered. Now, they want to share their experience so that others can do the same.

IT'S HUGE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT TYPE OF CANCER YOU HAVE AND WHAT TYPE OF PLAN WILL BE BEST FOR YOU.
